Ice Detector -- Aircraft Processing

Old, analog-style ice detectors were manufactured by Rosemount Inc. Newer, digital ice detectors are manufactured by Goodrich Sensor Systems, which is now a part of the UTC Aerospace Systems company.

Primitive Data Processing Scripts

process_raw

Purpose

Extracts probe vibration frequency data and other instrument diagnostic data from SEA M300 data system file (*.sea). For the analog-style ice detector, the output are stored within the *.analog.raw file. For the newer, digital-style ice detector, the process_raw script creates the *.serial.icingW.raw, *.serial.icingX.raw, *.serial.icingY.raw, and *.serial.icingZ.raw files. The *.serial.icingZ.raw files are only created if there is 'Z' stream data sent from the probe.

Required Input File

*.sea

Output Files

*.serial.icingW.raw *.serial.icingX.raw *.serial.icingY.raw *.serial.icingZ.raw

icing.pro (Legacy code)

Purpose

Calculates the Rosemount Icing probe parameters Sensor Voltage, Heater Flag Voltage, derived Liquid Water Content, and Icing Rate.

Required Input Files

*.analog.raw *.wind.raw

Output Files

*.icing.raw

Ice Detector Frequency Data

The digital-style ice detector calculates the probe vibration frequency and directly sends this frequency as a digital number to the M300 computer. There is no further processing performed on this data.
